Das Thames Flood Barrier ist einer der größten beweglichen Hochwasserschutzanlagen der Welt. Seit ihrer Fertigstellung 1986 wurde die Schranke 182 Mal geschlossen (Stand Februar 2018). 95 dieser Sperrungen dienten dem Schutz vor Gezeitenfluten und 87 Sperrungen dienten dem Schutz vor Flut-/Flussfluten.
