Old Royal Naval College The Old Royal Naval College is Sir Christopher Wren’s riverside masterpiece, built in the 17th Century as the Royal Hospital for Seamen on the site of the Tudor Palace of Placentia. The Old Royal Naval College boasts beautiful surroundings & some of the most magnificent interiors in London. The Painted Hall in King William Court is home to the largest painted ceiling in Europe, a Baroque masterpiece by Sir James Thornhill depicting over 300 years of English aristocracy & British Naval Power. The Great River Race 2018 Great River Race Pier Closures Today is the 30th Great River Race. A number of river closures are in place throughout the day. Approximate closure times include: St. Katharine Pier | 10:25-11:25 Westminster Pier Pier | 11:05-12:05 There will be no departures from these piers during these times. After the race has passed Westminster Bridge services should return to the usual time table. About Thames River Services Thames River Services (TRS) have been operating daily sightseeing tours since 1986, our current service operates between Westminster Pier, St. Katharine Pier (for Tower of London) & Greenwich Pier. During the summer months we operate the only river tours to the Thames Flood barrier, departing Westminster Pier, St Katharine Pier & Greenwich Pier five times a day. Our popular Sunday Evening Cruise has been operating from Greenwich Pier for over 30 years. To celebrate this milestone we are starting the cruise on Sunday 6th May, three weeks earlier than last season. About Sunday Evening Cruise Sunday Evening Cruise is a 2-hour Thames circular sightseeing cruise departing Greenwich Pier at 19:00. The cruise operates every Sunday during May, June, July, August & September. The cruise will take you from the Royal Borough of Greenwich up-river past some of London’s riverside sights before passing under Tower Bridge to view the Tower of London. The cruise continues through the city travelling as far as time and tide will allow before turning and returning to Greenwich to view the tea clipper Cutty Sark and if time allows, the Old Royal Naval College and the O2. Tickets for M.V King Edward are now on sale through our online store. Click Here to purchase tickets. About M.V King Edward M.V King Edward is a 2-story vessel with two enclosed, heated saloons. The lower saloon is home to a fully licensed bar serving a wide range of beers, ciders, wines, spirits, soft drinks & snacks. The bar accepts cash and card and drinks can be taken anywhere on board the vessel. The upper saloon is furnished with comfortable chairs and has 180-degree views. Toilet facilities are located on the reception deck between the upper and lower saloons. King Edward’s front deck and upper rear deck provide magnificent views at either end of the vessel. Charles Bowman will succeed our current Lord Mayor Andrew Parmley, who named Thames River Services newest vessel M.V Thomas Doggett earlier this year. If you are joining us for our Lord Mayor’s Fireworks Cruises in the afternoon please be aware that travel through the City of London will be extremely difficult due to the show.
